'Dithering' over lack of memorial for late Queen

Scottish Daily Express

September 08, 2025

THE SNP government has been accused of “dithering” on a memorial to the late Queen Elizabeth despite her links to the country.

- By Douglas Dickie

The Queen viewed Scotland as a place she could “be free” and she deliberately chose to be at Balmoral for her final days. She died on September 8, 2022 and her coffin’s journey from Royal Deeside to Edinburgh, where she lay in state at St Giles’ Cathedral, saw mourners line the roads and captured the imagination of the country. But the Scottish Government has still not set out plans for a permanent tribute to the monarch in the country.

John Swinney announced the creation of a committee ahead

Anniversary

of the second anniversary of her passing last year. The Scottish Express understands the committee will not report back until next year.

In contrast, moves for a major memorial in London are already moving at pace.
