Gers boss reveals how experience at Wednesday helped shape his Ibrox battle plan.. and how it wouldn't involve sweeping tactical alterations

DROPPED in at the deep end at Ibrox, Danny Rohl's choice wasn't so much sink or swim with Rangers.

Instead, it was more about whether he should make the changes he'd like to or the ones that were needed to keep heads above water.

Being plunged into a crisis club mid-season was certainly not a new experience for the German gaffer.

Its just over two years since the Rangers boss accepted his first managerial assignment, taking over a Sheffield Wednesday side that looked to be circling the drain only two months into the season.

The team Rohl inherited had sank to the bottom of the Championship table having failed to win any of their first 11 games. It was then that the former Bayern Munich and Germany assistant coach realised that making the sweeping tactical alterations he'd have normally made with the luxury of a full preseason were a nonstarter.

Instead it was about making the minor tweaks that were going to help Wednesday survive week to week.

Axed Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy took the opposite approach during his short-lived stint at Parkhead and this week paid the price as his tenure as Hoops gaffer drowned under a wave of fan fury.

But at Ibrox, Gers are now surfing along on a huge swell of positivity that has swept them back into the title race - with Rangers profiting from Rohl's decision not to swim against the tide.
