Broken promises on tax par for Swinney course

HOW can you trust a man who doesn’t even realise that the party he leads has broken its own manifesto pledge on income tax?

Quizzed by MSPs earlier this month, John Swinney said: “I don’t think what we’ve done in this parliament is out of kilter with what we said in our 2021 manifesto.”

To refresh his memory, the Nats promised voters they would “freeze income tax rates and bands, and increase thresholds by a maximum of inflation”.
