Britain 'would be at risk of recession' if Trump's tariffs get green light

BRITAIN could dive into recession if Donald Trump goes ahead with tariffs designed to force the sale of Greenland to America.
Our economy could shrink by up to £22billion as GDP reduces by between 0.3% and 0.75%, said Paul Dales from Capital Economics.
The US president says he will charge Britain a 10% tariff "on any and all goods" exported to the States from February 1. The tax would jump to 25% from June 1 and stand until a deal is reached for Washington DC to buy Greenland from Denmark.
Mr Dales said: "With the UK economy currently growing by 0.2-0.3% a quarter, if this hit came all at once it could trigger a recession." Stock markets plunged after Mr Trump's threat to Britain and seven other Nato nations - Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland - who have united against his plans.
The president claims he wants to acquire mineral-rich Arctic island Greenland which is part governed by Denmark to protect the US due to its strategic location.
