Asian hornet fears as nest finds double

THE deadly bee-eating Asian hornet population is growing “exponentially” in England, experts have warned.

Some 136 nests have been recorded so far in 2025, almost double last year’s figure of 79.

The predators, native to China, pose a huge threat to the more than 1,000 English species they feed on, including honey bees, bumble bees and butterflies.

Last week, an Asian hornet was spotted in Osmington, Dorset, and is believed to have travelled over on a cruise ship.
