Algerian dad gets eight years for brutal rape

AN Algerian rapist has been jailed despite trying to claim that prison would impair his ability to look after his young son back in his native North Africa.

Ali Chikane throttled his victim before sexually assaulting her in an alleyway.

She later told a jury how she was sobbing throughout her ordeal but it did not stop the chef.

Yesterday at the High Court in Edinburgh, married Chikane was jailed for eight years. Sentencing him, Judge Lord Arthurson said: "This was a violent, humiliating and thoroughly degrading crime.

"I have concluded that you assaulted and raped the complainer in anger and by way of the use of force - notwithstanding her clear and vocal protests to you to stop and even as she was crying.

“In the whole circumstances only a significant custodial disposal is appropriate.”
