FERGIE TIME Ferguson's goal was crucial in the win

- BY FRASER WILSON

LEWIS FERGUSON lived every Scotland fan's dream by netting his first international goal at a packed Hampden to energise the Tartan Army's World Cup march.

Now he’s ready to revert back to a support role - by sticking around to back his teammates against Belarus even though he’s suspended.

A leg-weary challenge late on in the tumultuous victory over Greece on Thursday has ruled the Bologna ace out of the fourth step on the road to the greatest show on earth.

But there was no way that was wiping the smile off Ferguson's face as he emerged from the home dressing room having blasted home the goal that turned a Greek tragedy into a night of celebration.

What bore the feeling of a landmark win keeps Scotland's World Cup fate in their own hands at the halfway stage in the sprint towards North America 2026.

Midfielder Ferguson said: “It’s every young lad’s dream to score a goal for your country in a big game. I can say I've done that now. It feels like I've not scored for ages so it was great to get one.

“It was amazing - it just dropped in front of me and my first thought was to just put my foot through it.
