The Pennsylvania House of Representatives adopted a resolution introduced by state Rep. Andre D. Carroll, D-Phila., that designates March 17, 2025, as "Bayard Rustin Day" in Pennsylvania.

Bayard Rustin, a native of West Chester, Pa., was a close advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and played a pivotal role in making nonviolent resistance a foundational principle of the Civil Rights Movement. He was the chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, one of the most significant demonstrations in our nation's history.
