SCIENTISTS have discovered a bacterial “gatekeeper” that blocks the spread of antibiotic resistance, a finding that could lead to new ways of treating stubborn infections.

Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem identified a specific protein that stops bacteria from sharing genetic material with their neighbours, the university said on Thursday.
