Tail-enders dig in to frustrate rivals

TITLE-CHASING Didsbury were denied victory by a determined effort from the Widnes tail enders, who survived 39 balls for the home side to gain a draw.

Chasing 243 for victory, Widnes could not put any sizeable partnerships together, leaving Palitha Kumara and Trent McKeegan, to hang on for a draw.

Didsbury won the toss and elected to bat first, on what looked like another fine batting surface.

Widnes were encouraged through the early wicket of Tom Hafil for 10, but Didsbury, recovered and the score advanced to 93 for 3 with Tim Hughes,30 and Robert Sehmi, 23 before being dismissed by Trent McKeegan.

Captain Nick Andreson, came to the wicket, intent on attack and together with Abhay Tipnis, took the score to 109 before Tipnis was LBW to Kumara for 30.

Anderson then decided the best form of defence is attack and, despite losing partners Ste Green for 16 and Charlie Lowen for 19, smashed the Widnes bowlers to all parts of the ground.
