Cancer charity run hopes to hit 500k target as it comes of age

ORGANISERS are hoping proceeds from this year's 21st Relay for Life Rossendale will see the amount raised for charity top half-a-million pounds.

Already 155 people, in 18 teams, have registered to take part in the round-the-clock marathon on the running tack at Marl Pits, Rawtenstall, on Saturday July 5, but there is capacity for more teams to enter.

The organising committee is also looking for more cancer survivors to join the first lap at noon and enjoy an afternoon tea with the Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Michelle Smith.

New chair of Relay for Life Rossendale, Samantha Hutchinson, said: "The money we raise all goes to Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute which works alongside the Christie Hospital carrying out groundbreaking research and treatment.
