WE may be in the close season but it was a busy weekend for Bacup Borough with several events taking place.

Bacup back training and date for Brent

Saturday marked the return of the first team to pre-season training.

An opportunity for the coaching staff to assemble the players in time for a host of friendlies arranged from early July onwards.

Borough will face Rossendale FC, New Mills, Route One Rovers and Chadderton as they gear up for another challenge in the North West Counties Division One North.

Good numbers returned for the first session held at Firgrove in Rochdale with the inclusion of several new faces in attendance.

Chatting briefly to first team coach Alan Taylor about the first session, he said: "The first session is usually a gentle one.

"An opportunity to gather the players together for the first time after the close season, and also take a look at the new players wishing to join us.

"We'll get them to do some steady paced running drills and ball work, but generally it's a good way to get them bonding again after a few months apart."
