Man, 48, accused of sex crimes denies raping girl
Rochdale Observer
|May 03, 2025
A MAN accused of sex crimes in the Rochdale abuse trial has denied allegations he raped a girl.
The two alleged victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claim they were sexually abused in the town between 2001 and 2006.
The complainants are identified as Girl A and Girl B.
Jurors have heard seven men on trial were mainly either taxi drivers or market stall traders in Rochdale.
The girls were 'passed around' for sex before being 'discarded,' it is alleged. All seven of the defendants deny all the allegations they face.
Naheem Akram, 48, of Manley Road, Rochdale, is charged with 11 counts of rape; indecency with a child; indecent assault; and assault by penetration. He denies all the charges and gave evidence at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday.
In evidence, the name 'Lala' was put to him by his barrister, Ahmed Hossain KC. Mr Akram said he was known by the name by his family and friends and said it means 'older brother'.
