Fourth loss from four for strugglers

IN the JW Lees Senior Division 2, Accrington’s tough start to the season continued with a three-wicket defeat at home against Greenmount.

Accrington won the toss and batted first, making 221-9 from their 50 overs. J Snyman 43, J Clarke 53 and A Hasham 46 all contributed to a decent tally, M Khan taking 5-50 for the visitors.

After finding themselves 31-3, Greenmount settled with T Townsend hitting 83 and C Mapstone firing an unbeaten 47 as victory was secured in the 46th over with seven wickets down.

The result was Accrington’s fourth successive loss of the season so far and left them second bottom of the table with just two points.

Below them is East Lancashire, who were comfortably despatched at Bacup at the weekend.
