Shad madness hits the coast as Kingfisher competition is on

THE biggest Shad competition in decades is on, and anglers from all over are gearing up for what promises to be a weekend of chaos along the coastline

On the fishing front, Shad fever has already gripped the Durban beachfront, where shoals have kept rods bending and spoons flashing. Anglers are reporting bonus catches of stumpies and grunter, with spinning spoons proving especially effective.

Matching the profile of sardines has worked best, but even a scrap of shiny tinfoil has been known to do the trick. Further up the coast, action has been more scattered thanks to recent weather, with only a handful of kob and shad making an appearance.
