Four Grade 12 pupils from Eastbury Secondary School discuss the pressures of the exams, their study plans and the potential for changing career paths, and they reflect on their aspirations and adaptability.
Lumka Buthelezi, 17, from KwaMashu, said: “I have done intensive preparations and revision ahead of the trial exams, but I think I need a bit more revision to ensure I excel.”
She wants to study anatomy at the University of Pretoria.
“Continuing my education will enable me to enhance my skills, knowledge and expertise in anatomy. This will not only benefit my personal growth, but allow me to make significant contributions to my future workplace.
“I am confident that my education will align with my long-term career goals.”
Lumka said she was drawn to understanding human health and diseases.
“I want to explore the human body and apply my knowledge to improve patient care, medical research and education.”
She said as a child she loved geology, so she was not opposed to changing career paths.
Her opinion on those who choose “unconventional” careers?
“To me, they often demonstrate courage, resilience and passion for their interests.
