A fiery satire of the Hindi film industry

DELIGHTFULLY RARE

LET’S get the obvious out of the way. Aryan Khan is Shah Rukh Khan’s son.

Yes, that Shah Rukh Khan. But in his directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Aryan doesn’t try to outrun his father’s legacy.

He decides to crash right through it in a flaming convertible full of satire and celebrity cameos laced with inside jokes.

It’s self-roasting and self-deprecating. Aryan does something delightfully rare in Bollywood — he doesn’t take himself or his industry too seriously.

Bollywood has always had a thing for mirrors. Sometimes it gazes lovingly (Om Shanti Om), sometimes flinching (Luck By Chance) and occasionally, it stares straight into the madness and laughs. Aryan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood does exactly that.

Set in the chaotic and morally flexible world of the Hindi film industry, the plot revolves around Aasmaan Singh (Lakshya), an outsider who rockets to stardom after his debut film Revolver explodes at the box office.

In classic Bollywood fashion, success is just the opening act.
