Inflation currently contained, says SARB

The world economy is experiencing extraordinary high uncertaintity and economy fault lines stemming from policy shifts and heightened trade tensions have emerged but inflation in South Africa is currently contained and the outlook appears moderate and in line with the 4.5% target midpoint.

- Barry Viljoen

The uncertainty around this outlook has, however, risen remarkably since the beginning of this year due to global and domestic risks and particularly heightened geopolitical and trade tensions.

This was the message of SARB head of economic research, Chris Loewald, during the SARB's six-monthly Monetary Policy Review session that was hosted at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World last Thursday evening.

Loewald was accompanied by colleagues Mokgabiso Tshenkeng, Kgotso Morema and Manisha Morar and guests from the financial and business sector attended.
