|May 20, 2025
The City says their Spatial Planning and Environment Directorate will commence the dredging of Zeekoevlei next month (June).
-
The project team is making progress with preparations for this operation, which will take about two years. It forms part of the City's efforts to improve the water quality of the body of water. Zeekoevlei is located in the False Bay Nature Reserve. It is a Ramsar site, a wetland designated as being of international importance under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, also known as the Convention Wetlands. The wetlands are recognised for their biodiversity and ecological significance.
Improving water quality is a key international commitment aligned to the Mayoral Priority Programme (MPP): Sanitation and Inland Water Quality.
