Who is eligible for winter payment?

October 10, 2025

There have been lots of articles about heating payments for pensioners in the last year. Who is eligible to receive a payment this winter?

Who is eligible for winter payment?

If you were pension age or over on any day of the week beginning September 15 to September 21, 2025, and living in Scotland, you can get a payment.

You'll get a single payment of between £101.70 and £305.10 depending on your age, the age of anyone else eligible that you live with and if either of you gets certain benefits.

Most people don't need to apply as, if you are eligible, you will get paid automatically and receive a letter from Social Security Scotland in November telling you about the payment.

The payments are expected to be paid in November and December.

Some people would need to apply in special circumstances - for example, if you deferred your state pension, or you get a joint award for benefits where the main claimant is under state pension age.
