When claiming Universal Credit for the first time, it is best to have as much information about your living situation.

Universal Credit queries answered

The list below should be a helpful guide of the information you should have on hand to claim Universal Credit:

■Postcode and address

■Details of the benefits you are receiving; e.g. what rates and if they have premiums attached to the benefits

■Details of housing costs: Do you pay rent to the council, landlord or do you have your own home?

■Details from employment

■Savings and investment details

■Details of the bank account that you wish Universal Credit to be paid into

What should you do if your circumstances change after you have claimed Universal Credit?

You must call Universal Credit and let them know that you have a change of circumstances.

As part of your agreement with Universal Credit, it is important to let them know of any changes; e.g. moving in with a partner or finishing a job.
