Trump's Ukraine tirade

SIR Keir Starmer has told his cabinet that the “stakes remain high” but the UK is continuing to work with “all its partners” to secure peace in Ukraine, as United States President Donald Trump castigated European leaders’ failure to end the war.

The US President's comments came after the Prime Minister hosted crisis talks with European allies over Ukraine's future. The European politicians were denigrated by Mr Trump as “weak” leaders of “decaying” nations, failing to “produce” anything as “the war just keeps going on and on”.

Mr Trump accused Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky of not reading the latest draft of the peace plan, in an extraordinary attack on Europe and Kyiv in an interview that will not calm concerns that he could abandon Ukraine to Russian aggression.

Downing Street said nobody wants peace in Ukraine more than Mr Zelensky, and rejected Mr Trump's criticism of Europe's failure to “produce”.
