Sports hall plan for education centre is stopped in tracks amid road concerns

Plans to extend an education centre in East Renfrewshire to provide a sports hall have been rejected over road safety concerns.
-
East Renfrewshire Council's roads team objected to Woodfarm Education Centre's application due to the "constraints of the surrounding public road network".
Residents living close to the Burns Grove facility in Thornliebank have complained about vehicles parked on nearby roads obstructing footpaths and visibility at junctions.
Woodfarm Education Trust, which runs the Islamic centre, wanted to build an extension to offer a new space for activities like yoga, badminton, boxing and table tennis. It believed a dedicated sports hall would "encourage health and sport to be promoted as well as the existing prayer, study, day care, elderly care and education services".
