Social tariffs offer broadband bills help

I had to give up work towards the end of last year to look after my partner, who fell ill, and our small income from her private pension and my Carer's Support payment is topped up with Universal Credit.

The internet is required by residents for a number of reasons
We are just about getting by but last week I got a reminder from my broadband provider that my 24-month fixed price contract is coming to an end and they will be increasing our bill. There's no way we can afford the higher amount but we need the internet for a number of reasons. Is there any way around this?
A number of providers now offer what are known as "social tariffs" and one of these may be your best option just now.
These are lower-cost packages for customers in receipt of certain (in and out-of-work) government benefits, which include Universal Credit.
If your current contract is coming to an end, you should speak to your provider and ask them whether they offer social tariffs. If your provider doesn't offer them, or you want a different type of package, Ofcom has a list of providers and packages available at www.ofcom.org.uk
