No progress on non-residential care fees
Paisley Daily Express
|November 01, 2025
In October 2019, the then First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced at her party’s conference that, if the SNP were reelected to government, she would scrap nonresidential care fees.
Pressure East Renfrewshire has considered introducing non-residential care fees for the first time but the proposal has met significant resistance
This announcement was, for many people, a welcome one, especially unpaid carers, and, of course, people with disabilities who live at home and rely on care services.
The SNP were so proud of this announcement that it was stated many times throughout the 2021 election campaign, with Sturgeon declaring many times “we will scrap nonresidential care fees”.
More than six years since that announcement, and less than six months to go until another Scottish Parliament election, and we are all still waiting to see those nonresidential care fees scrapped.
