Late councillor honoured in Scottish Parliament

A motion has been lodged at the Scottish Parliament to honour the late Barrhead councillor Betty Cunningham OBE.

West Scotland MSP Paul O’Kane, who was a fellow East Renfrewshire councillor and colleague of Betty for 10 years, published the motion earlier this month.
The motion highlights Betty's various career milestones—including her first council election win in 1999-her tenure as provost of East Renfrewshire, the establishment of an international trust in Malawi and her OBE recognition from Queen Elizabeth II.
Mr O’Kane said: ”Barrhead and East Renfrewshire lost one of a kind in Betty Cunningham.
