I'll miss my political mammy Betty

On Wednesday this week, the late Betty Wood-Cunningham OBE was laid to rest.

Her funeral was held at St John’s Church and St Conval’s Cemetery in Barrhead.

The funeral was filled with Betty's family and friends, and members of the local community who wanted to gather to remember Betty and her immense contribution to Barrhead and beyond.

The former MP for East Renfrewshire, the Rt Hon Jim Murphy, paid a touching tribute to Betty before reading out a heartfelt letter addressed to Betty from Tony Blair.

Both men's words conveyed an admiration that so many people shared for Betty’s unmistakable, formidable character.
