Clash with Kilbirnie didn’t go Farmer's Boys way

Neilston’s up-and-down season continued on Saturday as Kilbirnie’s attacking threat clinched the points at Brig O’Lea.

The villagers’ win-and-loss sequence is now three of each after six games following their return to the West of Scotland League First Division.

The day, however, belonged to friends and family of the late Sammy Johnston, the former Neilston manager.

He served the Farmer's Boys from 2005 to 2008 before a spell as assistant at East Renfrewshire neighbours Arthurlie.

Sammy had enjoyed a fine playing career prior to management including spells at St Johnstone, Partick Thistle and a string of Irish clubs.
