Budget failed with key objectives

Scottish Government finance secretary Shona Robison delivered her budget earlier this week

There are three important things any government should remember when delivering an annual budget for the year ahead.

They have to ensure public services have sufficient funding to perform as people expect and deserve them to.

They have to apply fair taxation, meaning those who can afford to pay a fair share while others who strive for better are not whacked in the pocket.

And they have to incentivise enterprise and business-which, of course, helps any economy in the short, medium and long-term.

This week, SNP finance secretary Shona Robison somehow managed to fail in all three of these objectives when unveiling her government's financial plan for the year ahead.

We shouldn't be surprised-it's the 19th budget in a row from the SNP, and with each one they seem to lurch even further into the territory of bad decisions made through incompetence and dogmatic naivety.
