Coconut, valued for its versatile uses, is revered as ‘Kalpa-brukhya’ in several religions since every part of the tree serves a purpose.
This year’s World Coconut Day theme, “Uncovering Coconut’s Power, Inspiring Global Action,” highlights the need to boost innovation and revitalise the coconut sector through sustainable practices and partnerships.
Taking a significant step towards sustainability, local artisans are giving new life to discarded coconut shells by crafting them into beautiful handicrafts and utility products.
Bijay Kumar Kamila, a mechanic from Mayurbhanj district, discovered the value of coconut shells by turning them into intricate sculptures.
