Panic gripped people after police Wednesday recovered the decomposed body of a woman from a paddy field near Gaelpita village under Bandhapada police outpost here in Bolangir district.

When recovered, the body was found with its face burnt, prompting locals to suspect that she was murdered after rape.
Miscreants might have burnt the face of the woman to destroy evidence, they said.
