A major global study has found that the regular consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) can significantly increase the risk of preventable, premature deaths.

Previous research has already linked UPFs — foods typically high in sodium, trans fats, and sugar — to at least 32 diseases, including cardiovascular conditions, obesity, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and even depression. However, the new findings provide a more comprehensive look at the broader impact of UPFs on mortality.
