India to buy LPG from US

As India and US continue negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement, Indian public sector oil companies have finalised a one-year contract to import approximately 2.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the US starting in 2026.
The deal is expected to contribute to narrowing India's trade surplus with the US—a key concern for President Donald Trump, who has recently imposed a 50% tariff on Indian exports to America. US officials had earlier alleged that India has indirectly supported Russia's war efforts in Ukraine through ongoing energy purchases. Although President Trump had stated that India agreed to halt Russian oil imports, India has continued to procure discounted Russian crude to meet domestic energy needs.
