3-day residential monsoon bird census begins at Bhitarkanika

Authorities of Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district launched a three-day census Saturday to count the residential monsoon birds that flock to the park’s wetland areas every year for nesting, officials said.

The count is being carried out by two teams of seven members each under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer Bharadwaj Gaon. The teams include ornithologists and wildlife personnel from the national park.

Meanwhile, two teams assigned to Balidiha under the Rajnagar range had to return without conducting the census due to heavy floodwater in the area.
