Nottingham Post
|January 03, 2026
THE widow of a former Retford power station worker is appealing for help following her husband's asbestos-related death.
-
John Holmes died at 80 years old after being diagnosed with lung cancer and asbestosis, an incurable disease caused by exposure to asbestos fibres.
John met his wife Hazel at a New Year's Eve party and they were married in 1974. They had their daughter Charlotte, now 46, and later became grandparents to two children. John was from Staffordshire and enjoyed arts and crafts, reading and travelling, but began experiencing health issues in late 2021. He had developed a persistent cough and by June 2023 he reported increased breathlessness and was struggling to exercise.
