VICTORIA MARKET TRADERS REMAIN DEFIANT OVER ITS CLOSURE

- By OLIVER PRIDMORE

ONE of the last traders at Victoria Market says he has “every right” to be there as the city council tries to turf him out.

Just three traders could soon be left at the market in Victoria Centre as Nottingham City Council appears close to a deal with one business that had legal action pending against it.

The council were told they would have a “hell of a job” getting the last three traders out and one of them has now described his frustration at the way the authority are handling the process.

The council says its lease on the market would have cost it £39 million over the next 50 years. In a bid to save that money, the Labour-run authority first announced in 2022 that it wanted to give up the site.
