CORONER FEARS MORE RESIDENTS COULD DIE UNLESS ACTION IS TAKEN
Mulberry Court Care Home in Bilborough
A CORONER has warned that more people could die at a care home where “significant gaps” in a resident's records contributed to his death.
Ronald Colin Nelson, 77, was a resident of Mulberry Court Care Home in Bilborough when he died on January 26 last year.
An inquest at Nottingham Coroner’s Court was told this week that the retired engineer and telesales representative died from aspiration pneumonia caused by his advanced dementia.
Coroner Sarah Wood heard Mr Nelson was nonverbal due to his dementia and had become bed-bound in October 2024 due to a respiratory infection. He developed pressure sores as a consequence of this.
Mr Nelson received treatment in hospital for grade 2 pressure sores and was then discharged to his care home, where his pressure sores deteriorated to grades 3 and 4.
