Tom's top show has first title in the bag

NEWARK’S Tom Cowling celebrated his first title after a split decision win against Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Aaron Bowen.

They competed for the Midlands Area middleweight title, which featured on the undercard of Ben Whittaker’s Matchroom Boxing debut #LevelUp show, live on DAZN, which took place at Birmingham's NEC.

“It’s an unforgettable night for me, winning my first ever title against the 2022 light heavyweight commonwealth bronze medallist Aaron Bowen live on DAZN,’ said Cowling.

He was very much the underdog against Matchroom's “golden boy” Bowen (7-1(5). But the Newark fighter (15-1(4)) had experienced and highlyrespected trainer Carl Greaves (former Midlands Area super-featherweight —champion/ former WBF champion) in his corner and had other ideas.

A contest that started off evenly sprung to life when Bowen dropped Cowling with a big right hand part way through the fifth round but all this did was spark the Newark fighter into action.
