MORE than £5,000 has been raised for a heroic Nottingham Forest fan who helped to save the lives of children after confronting the Huntingdon train knifeman.

Thousands raised for Stephen, who selflessly acted to save lives

There was a huge emergency response to the incident on Saturday

But, despite his courage, Stephen Crean insists he's “just a normal guy”.

Following his heroic actions, Mr Crean has received widespread praise.

And Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis offered to cover the costs of medical care needed by fans affected by the incident.

An online fundraiser via GoFundMe has now been created in Mr Crean's name, with the hopes of financially supporting him while he recovers.

Set up by a group of fellow fans, the fundraiser has already smashed its £500 target, with more than £5,000 raised by yesterday afternoon.

“Steve has been a regular fixture at Forest home and away games for many years, making the long journey up from London, and is well known amongst our fanbase,” the fundraiser reads.
