MARION MCMULLEN on how Top Of The Pops marked a year of top tunes in 1965

MUSIC lovers were unwrapping a bumper selection of chart hits 60 years ago.

Top Of The Pops was Britain's biggest music show and in 1965 it celebrated the top tracks of the year with the first seasonal edition of the programme.

The Beatles were the star guests and were at number one with double Aside Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out.

They mimed to both songs for the show and also recorded links for the other acts on the special.
