'GOOD RIDDANCE’ TO UNLOVED CONCRETE CAR PARK

- By OLIVER PRIDMORE oliver.pridmore@reachpiccom

IT has been branded by some Nottingham’s ugliest building - but the end is finally now in sight for NCP’s monstrous Maid Marian Way car park.

As well as being unpleasant to look at, the concrete edifice blocks the view from the Green Heart to Nottingham Castle.

The sale of the Broad Marsh development area by Nottingham City Council to Homes England included the land on which the NCP car park sits, and it was promptly announced that the site would be flattened.

Many may begrudge the loss of 400 parking spaces, especially at a time of year when most of Nottingham’s major car parks are often bursting at the seams.

But my recent return to the site after years of conscious avoidance rendered my mood far more celebratory when the demolition time frame was set last week.

A few near-miss attempts at squeezing my pride and joy around the outdated structure were enough to put me off ever using it again.

For various reasons, though, I was left with no choice but to return to Hell on Earth on a wet and windy Friday night.
