'Sandstorm' from building site covering homes, cars and gardens with dust
Nottingham Post
|April 22, 2025
RESIDENTS say they are being “driven crazy” by dust from a construction site which has left them unable to use their gardens.
Last month, work started on a 45-house development off Killisick Lane, Arnold, after more than a year of fierce local opposition.
A mix of three-bed and five-bed properties, including nine affordable homes, are due to be built on the once-popular dog-walking field by developer Strata.
The site is next to Hobbucks Nature Reserve.
However, since builders arrived at the beginning of March, neighbours say they have been dealing with “sandstorm”-like dust covering their houses, gardens and cars.
“It’s driving us all crazy and they're just not doing anything to resolve the issue,” said Helen Greensmith, who lives in Brechin Close.
“It’s affecting me personally quite badly. To say my neighbours are really unhappy is an understatement.
“The dust is really upsetting us all. People want to sit outside in the week and have a nice glass of white wine - well, I do.”
The 59-year-old Conservative councillor, who represents the Dumbles ward on Gedling Borough Council, said she had given up washing her car because of the dust.
