Phone cams barred from new city club

THE man behind Nottingham's newest nightclub says it is operating a policy of barring camera phones to make sure revellers are “present and enjoying themselves”.

The Model recently opened in Goose Gate, Hockley, hosting sellout crowds for its first string of events. The venue, in a Grade II listed building previously occupied by Bar Eleven, asks club-goers to place a sticker over their smartphone cameras. The policy has been adopted in a handful of clubs across the UK and is the norm in places such as Berlin.

Luke Challoner, who runs The Model, said he is trying to crack down on what he believes is a breach of privacy. “It does affect the atmosphere. We want people to be present and enjoying themselves,” said the 27-year-old.
