New plans for transformation of department store revealed

MORE plans for the transformation of an empty Mansfield department store into a DWP, council, and health centre have been revealed.

Mansfield District Council submitted plans in December 2024 to repurpose the former Beales store, which shut in 2020, into a new civic and community hub called 'Mansfield Connect,' and has now brought forward a fresh set of documents relating to the project.
An architect, writing on behalf of the council to its planning department, has asked whether an environmental impact assessment would be needed “for a smaller development on the site of the Beales department store”.
These assessments can sometimes be required when a residential or industrial project is large enough to have significant environmental impacts.
