MP refuses to be drawn into controversy over local authorities rethink

RUSHCLIFFE'S MP says he is “not being drawn" into the row over whether the area should merge with Nottingham.

Thousands have signed a petition against an expanded city council covering areas including Rushcliffe, Gedling and Broxtowe as talks continue over the biggest local government shakeup for 50 years.
Conservative-led Rushcliffe Borough Council could be abolished to become part of the bigger city authority, with the borough's leader expressing fears over the impact on taxpayers.
Despite the Rushcliffe petition gathering more than 12,500 signatures, the area's Labour MP says it is not the right time for him to express a view.
