Magpies urged to sharpen cutting edge as opening spoils are shared

MARTIN Paterson is focused on building a winning culture at Notts County, reflected in his dissatisfaction with the result in their League Two opener.

The Magpies drew 1-1 away against Newport County on Saturday, levelling through a Jodi Jones penalty in the second half.

There were things that pleased Paterson about the performance but also plenty to work on, which is natural after the first competitive match of his Notts tenure.

At a club that expects positive results at this level, there is not much room for focusing on the good aspects of a game that was not won, and Paterson is pushing for more.

"There are positives to take (from the Newport game) but I'm trying to build a culture that, when you're not winning, the positives aren't important," said Paterson.
