EIGHT decades ago Nottingham joined the rest of the world to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe.
The 80th anniversary of VE Day is marked today.
Nazi Germany had finally surrendered after six years of war across Europe, spanning from occupied France to the frozen Eastern Front and the USSR.
Adolf Hitler's suicide on April 30, 1945, was followed by the fall of Berlin days later.
While German, American and Soviet generals signed the peace agreement on May 7, it came into force the following day.
