Hit and myths of the latest Trident
Nottingham Post
|May 02, 2025
IN ITS ROAD MODE IT’S LIKE A LABRADOR PUPPY, IN SPORT LIKE A GREYHOUND IN SEARCH OF A HARE.
THOSE of you familiar with Greek and Roman mythology, which I'm sure is all of you, will know the trident was a three-pronged thingy wielded by Poseidon, aka Neptune, to poke sleeping jellyfish, fend off bolshie sharks and generally show his power over all the wet bits on Earth.
However, that didn’t include Hinckley near Leicester, except when it rains, so a Trident there means the midrange triple which - despite being launched in exotic Croydon in the middle of Covid in 2020 - became surprisingly successful with bikers who follow the Goldilocks theory that less than 660cc is boring, and more than that is unnecessary in the real world. Whatever that is.
However, I'd ridden it before and found it feisty enough for a 660, but a bit unexciting compared with the Tiger Sport 850 and Tiger 800 or 900.
So the good news is that this latest version comes with three riding modes, Rain, Road and Sport, so the latter should perk things up a bit.
Also new is cornering ABS and traction control, a quickshifter and autoblipper as standard rather than optional extras, cruise control and connectivity for your phone, music and navigation - or to listen to your favourite Greek mythology podcast.
