MP SAYS RISE IN NUMBERS IS A RESULT OF SERVICES BEING 'CUT TO THE BONE'

Heartbreaking sight of nearly 50 people sleeping rough in city on Christmas Day morning

CONCERNS have been raised over "alarmingly high" levels of homeless people sleeping rough in Nottingham.

On Christmas Day morning, at least 45 people were found sleeping in doorways, on benches and outside in bitterly cold conditions in the city.

The number of rough sleepers counted by the Framework charity's street outreach team, has increased by 14 people from 2024.

The leading charity, which supports homeless people in Nottingham, helps to signpost rough sleepers to other services in the city, including the winter shelter run by another organisation, Emmanuel House.

Sam Lanes, service manager for Framework's Nottingham outreach team warned that, without the charity's support, the vulnerable people in need "would not have anyone".

"Framework's services offer support to vulnerable individuals in the city and often, without our support, these people would not have anyone," the charity worker told the Post.

"In the winter months SWEP (severe weather emergency provisions) and the WNS (winter night shelter) offer safe spaces when the temperatures drop too."
