SHAKE-UP TARGETS HOSPITALISED CRIMINALS

- By OLIVER PRIDMORE

NOTTINGHAM attacks killer Valdo Calocane could be stopped from claiming benefits in a government change to stop "rewarding acts of violence".

The government is looking to close a loophole under which offenders detained in hospitals under a court order, like Calocane, could be paid more than £800 a month in Universal Credit.

It was reported in February 2024 that 34-year-old Calocane was entitled to claim up to £360 a month in Universal Credit while being held at the high-security Ashworth Hospital.
